About the event
Discover the joy and possibilities of felting on a precious scale!
Learn a variety of innovative techniques to make uniquely shaped components suitable for jewellery, small sculptures, embellishments and more. Make ingenious beads (aptly named Scrunch, Spike, Dotty, Fangs, ColorCuts, and Twirls), and create one-of-a-kind Pendants, Brooches, Necklaces and more. This is a hands-on workshop with lots of 'play time', providing a solid foundation in well-made felt on a precious scale, and inspiration for future projects to boot!
Materials List: Participants are asked to bring the following:
o One small towel and one old tea towel
o Plastic container (ice-cream or similar); size approximately 2 litres (no buckets please)
o Sharp, fine-pointed scissors
o A sharp craft knife and if you have it a small cutting mat (mats can be shared; don’t purchase one especially)
o A selection of long, metal knitting needles in varying sizes; thick to thin; 5 different sizesis great
o General sewing equipment (sewing needles – all sharp pointed and some with a large eye, some pins, and a tape-measure)
o Notebook & pens, or other method of recording information
o If you have them, please bring an awl and a pair of small pliers (no need to buy them especially as they can be shared and Martien will bring some)
o Feel free to bring a small container of beads and jewellery components, buttons/precious stones, fine gauge jewellery wire, cord and any other jewellery-making ‘treasures’. Please note that the focus of this class is on making felt; some of your treasures will be a source of inspiration and may assist in finishing some items later.
Materials fee: There is a fee of $10 per person, payable to Martien in cash, at the start of the workshop. This fee covers all materials used during the workshop (wool & other fibres, wires/cords & some jewellery components), detailed class notes, and the use of Martien’s felting equipment and tools.
